Day 6, June 26, 2005

Today's 338 km journey took us from Westport along the shores of Lough Mask and Lough Nafooey, past the Partry Mountains, to Tralee. Due to the distance, the route was planned along main roads. A short stop in Galway was added at short notice because of a British Air Force air show. But this impressive and interesting display was quickly forgotten…
 

…because the rest of the journey home was overshadowed by a very negative event for me . As always, I was driving last in the group and had to watch as my partner was hit in the roundabout, without me having the chance to intervene to help or prevent it…

After a longer, enforced break during which we calmed down somewhat, we were able to continue our return journey, but we skipped some planned stops along the way, such as Bunratty Castle and its open-air museum. Our priority was to get back to Tralee as quickly as possible to rest, recharge, and take care of my girlfriend.

We didn't know how well she would cope with the rest of the journey, so we scheduled an examination at the hospital for the next day.
