Day 6, June 1, 2003

Only a short tour was planned for the sixth day, which took us to Kilkenny.

Here we thoroughly admired Kilkenny Castle and strolled through the vast park. Besides the boldly roaming squirrels, various recreational activities are permitted in the park; you see people lying on the grass, children flying kites, and so on.

Inside the castle, we took another guided tour, which, given the size of the building, took quite some time. Afterwards, we headed into town, where a street performer, quite literally, stood in the middle of the street, bringing traffic to a standstill.

He made sure no driver escaped; everyone was allowed (or required) to participate in the comedy routine, and even some of the spectators were included. It was a wonderful and varied event. I don't know how long we watched and listened, but when we left, the performer was far from finished. The audience was thrilled.

We could have watched a hurling game, a Gaelic game that is over 2,000 years old, or we could have tried our hand at "Pitch & Putt" – golf on a small golf course – but we had spent so much time in the castle and the town that it was slowly time to end the evening in a nice pub with Irish music.
